10 Jul A Heartbeat Away from Home
For parents Natalie and Matt, a routine pediatric appointment for their son Connor quickly became an emergency trip to Akron Children’s, followed by a transfer to Cleveland Clinic Children’s for specialized care. At just one month old, Connor was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and left ventricular noncompaction, a rare and serious heart condition.
In the middle of this terrifying journey, Connor’s family found something they didn’t expect: a warm, welcoming place to stay at the Cleveland Ronald McDonald House.

Connor’s parents were able to sleep in cozy beds instead of hospital chairs. They had a comfortable room just minutes from the PICU where they could rest, recharge, and remain close to their son. For more than two weeks, they lived at the Cleveland House, taking turns between hospital visits and much-needed sleep.
Months later, a setback in Connor’s health brought the family back to the Cleveland House for another two-week stay.
Matt was working nights at the time, commuting between his job and the hospital. With the support of RMHC NEO, he was able to be there for his family, without the added burden of hotel costs or long drives.
Today, Connor is a happy, active three-year-old. And his family has never forgotten what RMHC Northeast Ohio gave them. As a thank-you, Matt donated a photo booth rental from his company, Fun Booth Canton, for our Red Tie Affair—sharing joy with others, just as joy was once shared with them.
